Summary

The Leadership one-on-one series was created in 2015 to help the UBC community learn more about the university’s leadership and the people behind the title.

The Strategy

Every year, we feature a range of leaders from across the university to showcase diverse perspectives and expertise within UBC’s leadership. We interview senior leaders and delve deeper into the world to learn and share more about themselves, their challenges and successes with the community. The cornerstone of our strategy is to share an authentic view of leadership personalities at UBC. By doing so, we promote transparency and evoke curiosity to learn more about UBC’s leaders.

The Solution

A thoughtful, curated compilation of leadership interviews planned strategically every year, distributed across UBC’s central communication channels

This series enables our community to learn more about our senior leaders. It helps breaks down barriers, and helps community members learn more about UBC’s leadership prior to meeting them.

The Results

Since 2015, 76 leadership one-on-one interviews have been conducted, with some of our leaders sharing feedback about how their interview helped them establish connections with colleagues they otherwise might not have had a chance to interact with.

Here are a few examples of the feedback we have received in response:

“In our work world, we often just gloss over huge life events as if they just pass by quickly. Thank you for helping to make UBC a place where we humanize our leaders and acknowledge our shared human experience.”

Dr. Jenny Phelps
Assistant Vice-Provost Graduate & Postdoctoral Academic Initiatives

“I’ve had great feedback on [my Leadership one-on-one] interview – people liked it a lot. I heard from people I don’t even know!”

Moura Quayle
Vice-Provost and Associate Vice-President, Academic Affairs
