Celebrating faculty and staff advancing sustainability at the university
The UBC Internal Communications team runs an annual story series via UBC Today to highlight the faculty and staff at UBC whose hard work, innovation and dedication often happens behind the scenes. In 2023, we chose the theme of sustainability, which is a key institutional priority at the university, to recognize the work being done by our colleagues to support this important work.
Chinese Exclusion Act Anniversary; Satellite Event, Exhibit & Symposium Promotion
UBC worked to curate an exhibition at the Chinese Canadian Museum about the anniversary and sponsor three events: a June 23 satellite viewing at UBC Vancouver of a National Remembrance Event held in the Senate chambers in Ottawa, a June 26, 2023 discussion with the museum curator and a September national symposium to raise awareness of this dark chapter in Canadian history.
UBC at COP28, the UN climate summit
Media Relations developed a media campaign to promote UBC’s participation in the 28th United Nations climate summit, COP28, and to highlight the university’s leadership in climate change research and action.
New art connects The Reconciliation Pole to Musqueam territory
UBC Media Relations collaborated with Musqueam to share the story of the new artwork titled θəʔit (truth in English), added to the Reconciliation Pole at UBC. We spotlighted UBC’s commitment to reconciliation and Indigenous Peoples, facilitated media interviews, and raised awareness about the meaningful artwork.
Digital Certificates & Badges
Digital certificates/badges offered by UBC faculties and Extended Learning required the creation of a hierarchical visual identity system. There is much recognition, credibility and equity in the UBC brand, and faculties benefit by leveraging a consistent look and feel in their digital certificates/badges. Concurrently, the design system and family of templates allows for flexibility for faculties
